Have you ever felt like you need a little excitement? Bored with doing the same things over and over with your natural hair? Or thought, maybe I should color it, or add henna? All in search of a lost enthusiasm that you once had for your hair. Well, don’t feel bad, this is actually quite normal. I’ll call it “Hair Journey Plateau”. You hit that ceiling, and pretty hard too, and begin to wonder what else can I do. You still believe that there are so many options with natural hair, it’s the enthusiasm to try or do them that you lack. Hitting a plateau can be the result of length of time natural, lack of time to devote to hair, doing the same styles over and over, or length of hair.

I’ll speak for myself here! After I hit my one-year mark, I had the sudden urge to color, and that I did. I played with colors for over a year and wanted the color gone. I switched to henna for a little while, and from there had an unfortunate hair cut, which set me back in growth mode. After my hair reached the max goal I had set for it, I began thinking what’s next. These questions are fueled by a few different factors. For many of us, boredom sets in; yet for others, it’s the realization that once we get to our destination, there’s nothing there.

I, in the past months, experienced many of these sentiments. I reread some posts from last year and thought, what happened to this zeal and excitement, many times as I was putting my hair in a bun Nothing wrong with buns by the way!

Honestly there are many ways to handle being natural for a long time, and no longer feeling excited. You can choose that it is a phase and just deal with it until it passes and you get the excitement back. You can make efforts to begin taking better care of your hair again and try to be wowed by sitting with conditioner in your hair all over again. You can also try something new and exciting, be it color, cinnamon lightening, a new cut, etc. The method in which you handle “hair journey plateaus” will vary. Just find a way to get out of the rut, but whatever you do, do it soundly. Make sure it is not a decision you’re going to regret as soon as you are back to your senses. If you cut your hair back to TWA because you had an “out of love” moment, I can guarantee you that your hair won’t grow back overnight when the bad feeling is gone {this isn’t my personal testimony by the way }.

Hair Musings from August 15, 2010
I am absolutely thrilled about my hair and everything it’s done in the past month. I have had a hard time keeping my hands out of it, and to my surprise I’ve even been able to style it differently, a few of the looks I created with my 1.5-3 inches of hair are included with this post. For instructions on how to achieve some of these on your own hair, you can check my Youtube channel. It’s been fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what the next month will bring!

Tell us a little about your Texture?

I am a type 4A.

What have you loved most about being natural & playfully textured?

I love the fact I can just wash n’ go especially since it has been so hot and humid here in New York. No more rollers and hot irons.

What is your hair care routine?

I have lately been co-washing twice a week with Carol’s Daughter Tui Hair Smoothie or either Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask.  I then use Fleurzty Curls Nurture Cream Lemon Ylang Ylang Hydrating Butter and Barry Fletcher’s Instant Moisture Spray on a daily basis.

When I want to clarify I use  Koils by Nature Replenishing Lavender & Eucalyptus Cleanser & Oyin Handmade Honey Conditioner.  I also used JBCO as a hot oil treatment along with mango and shea butter once a month.

Top 3 styles.

I basically just like to wear headbands and hair accessories mainly flowers because my hair doesn’t hold any styles.

Your hair’s 3 best attributes.

My hair is very thick, soft and sexy.

Anything else you would like to share with our friends on the
playground.

I have been natural for almost 8 months after losing all my relaxed hair from a car accident. I am happy to have discovered this forum and the Fleurzty Hair Boutique. I love the products because had I discovered this months ago I could saved tons of money and not contribute to me being a Hair Product Junkie Diva.

Hair Musing from August 14th

Fresh flowers add absolute beauty to short hair. I did my hair, got dressed and took a look at the vase of flowers sitting on my dining room table and just had to use one of the little flowers on my hair. I held the flower in my hair with a hair pin and by tucking the small stem behind my ear.

1) Day 2, 3 and 4 hair does not exist when your hair is 3 inches long. I had to forget about it, and fill my spritzer with water for next day refreshing.
2) Deep conditioning is still very important. Your hair may be shorter, but it still needs you to moisturize and nourish it, if it is to look its best.
3) When you can’t hide behind your hair, you take care of the whole self. I’ve noticed myself being a little more aware of my blackheads with my hair shorter. I can’t wear my huge hair as an accessory to distract anyone. I’ve also become very comfortable with my occasional zits because there is absolutely no hiding them
4) It takes a little time to get adjusted to very short hair. While I love my new do, I have caught myself reaching for my ponytail or twists a few times. It was quite funny whenever it happened because I would remember that there is no hair there lol.
5) Most men love whichever hair you are confident wearing. Honestly most men only care that you are comfortable and radiate that confidence. As is often said, insecurity doesn’t look good on anyone;  and if your do is a source of insecurity for you, those close to you will resent it. I am not speaking solely of relationships here, but friendships and familial relationships as well. I got the most opposition from male friends and relatives. Very ironic I know, but it all lasted no more than a few days because I wasn’t internalizing their remarks and comments, and was too busy enjoying my hair to pay attention Many of them emailed me later on to tell me just how great my new look was. I can say so much more about that but that is another post! Bottom line is “Be confident!”.

Just had to leave a comment about your products! Wonderful!!! I just received your Nurturing Treatment oil, Curls Nurture Cream and Hydrating butter and I have found my staple products for my braidouts for the winter YEAH!!! I did a poo,condition, then oil rinse with the Nurturing treatment oil, put in a leave in condish (KCKT) and sectioned my hair to make about 8-10 braids. I applied the Curls Nurture Cream to each section and braided, sealing the ends with a little Aloe vera gel and your Hydrating butter. When I went to remove the braids the next afternoon, OMG!! My hair was so soft and defined! I did apply a bit of the Hydrating butter as I lightly fluffed my hair!!! Amazing moisture, shine and very little to no frizziness! I have had a hard time finding the right products to use for twist/braid outs (I have thick hair but it is more of a fine texture and straight shea butter is too much and does nothing but sit on my hair). But your products truly moisturized, softened and defrizzed my hair!! I can’t wait until my next braidout! I will be ordering the larger Curls Nurture cream…can’t wait to try it on a wash n go before it gets cold! Amazing products, you go girl! Thanks so much!
