It has been 5 years since my Big Chop. I am so excited. Originally 5 years seemed like such a long time off, but it has certainly been the best five years my hair and I have had. In honor of my anniversary, I am starting a new category Then…Now to serve as a direct link between the past and present hair days. This section will feature hair updates, various length and styles, color changes, etc. To kick off the Then…Now category, I am showcasing my hair the day I BC’ed and my hair today. Lots of changes definitely. The night I BC’ed you could not even tell that I had a curl pattern. My hair was a mix of straight and not so straight hair. My first curls actually showed themselves a few weeks later. They were not very defined either. I guess my hair was putting me to the test. It took time before my hair would style without a hasle, and much longer before it could fit in a ponytail, and much much longer before it began to grow down and not simply out. Oh the memories
Also ladies, I would love to see your Then…Now pictures. Email them to me if you would like them to be featured on the site.

Congrats on your 5 year anniversary! Your hair is beautiful!
I think this is a great idea. Reading your memories of your ‘then’ reminds me of my own. It’s so funny that even though we may all have different variations of textures on our heads-we very often experience the same things. There are plenty of YT vids that people title ‘my hair texture has changed’ etc. When the texture hasn’t changed, it’s just not what you thought it was when you first BC’d. That period of time when your hair is too short to grow down is a really testing period for us all. Many don’t make it through that-but thank God that some of us do! It’s nice to see how perfectly unique He has made us all. And it’s a good feeling to be able to appreciate just the way that He made me.
Congratulations! You and your hair are beautiful inside and out. I had to take a minute to think about when I did my big chop I beleive it was sometime in the summer of 2002 so almost 8 years. It seems like forever because I can’t remember what it was like to have relaxed hair which is the greatest feeling!
Fleurzty, you are my hair hero. When I get frustrated with my shrinkage, I look at your blog for encouragement to continue my natural journey. I know I can achieve the same length and healthy hair thanks to you and God. Congratulations on your 5 years of healthy natural hair. Keep growing.
Congratulations!
Happy Anniversary!
Just beautiful!!! I just e-mailed you my “Then & Now” photos which are 2 years apart.
Your hair is gorgeous I can only imagine!!
