Braidout is the style…

by Fleurzty on February 1, 2010

… for this week! I stumbled upon this braidout actually. I, in fact, had no elaborate plans for my hair this week. On Friday, I wore my hair in a twistout ponytail, and headed out to shop for accessories at Target. If you recall, last week I mentioned needing to invest in some more accessories. Well, I ran into one of my readers at the store :) , can you believe it? I loved every second of it! We had a good conversation about hair of course, more specifically hair accessories. She shared with me that Ann Taylor Loft had some beautiful pieces, so naturally there I went! I am not a big fan of elaborate accessories! I never think they look good on me, but that’s another post. On the accessories table, there laid a beautiful, flexible blue headband with an ivory flower on the side.  I could not stop staring at it! I tried to convince myself that it was too expensive ($18.99) but I lost the fight!

Once I got home, I played around with different style ideas to wear it. This is the story of the dry braidout. I tried a small section and it looked fine, so I figured I would give it a go and hopefully after setting for an entire day (it snowed on Saturday), it would look ravishing in time for Sunday’s do.

I was quite pleased today! I liked it so much that I could not settle on a few pictures. So, enjoy the picture galore! For an assortment of headbands similar to the one I purchased, you can stop by Ann Taylor or visit Boutique de Bandeaux. Her Etsy shop has a lot of headband accessories. I will place an order with her next, and will have a review on her product next. The prices are the same. Her products range from $14-$20.

I have to admit that I was not a headband fan because they are usually tight behind my ears resulting in a headache, but the small, soft band from Ann Taylor did not cause this.

Before the pics, How does the new week find YOU?

I think I am losing weight, but I have to stick to my plan to see consistent results!

Maintaining the style at night:

- Apply hair butter.

- Braid dry hair. I apply a few drops of water to the ends to freshen and make braiding the ends easier.

- Wear a satin scarf.

Your braid out looks great, how many braids did you put in?

ChocolateOrchid February 1, 2010 at 6:04 pm

You still have me laughing at “I tried to convince myself that it was too expensive ($18.99) but I lost the fight!” Haha! I can totally relate.

Next, you look absolutely beautiful. The outfit is so cute and yes, you’re looking mighty slim, Lady! Looks like you were about to go out for date night w/your hubby. Work it, girl!

I’m lovin’ your braidout. I keep coming up with excuses to not try it but I think I may give it a go my next wash day.

Oh yes, I am feelin’ the headband. Lol.

Hi,

I am a new follower to your blog and let me say I love it!
Your hair is such an inspiration. and this braidout is gorgeous!

I tried the amla treament over the weekend..but it was a big failure!! :( I don’t know what I did wrong..too much water, or the water was too hot…but for some reason the mixture was all “granulated- grains” like…as if there was sand in it…I am sure you can imagine what a mess it was to apply on my hair and to get rid of!! IT was horrible. Do you have any idea what I did wrong?

Thank you. :)

Wow!! First, red is definitely your color! Second, thanks! I’ve never thought of looking in Ann Taylor for hair accessories, that headband is really cute! Third, you do look like you’ve lost weight!! Fourth (lol!) the braid out is so cute. Maybe I will try one this week.

Aaaaw, it was great talking to you as well:)

You look so cute, though I need to add a disclaimer. I recommended Ann Taylor Loft because they were having a SALE,lol! I don’t cosign on the 18.99—but it is extremely cute. As promised, I will send you pictures of my qhemets products on my hair, along with my 9.99 headband:P

Ka-Ute! What products did you use for your braidout?

Fleurzty February 9, 2010 at 11:37 am

Thanks a million ladies!

@CurlyKye, I will start compiling my meals and recipes for future posts. I joined KCurly’s fitness challenge, and have been “trying” to work out. The eating part comes easier to me. I am upping my exercise though this week!

@Nappattitude Thank you for the kind words :) Did you add anything other than water to your mix? My mix is more even when I add a tiny bit of oil to it. It helps with consistency. I am not sure why it had grains in it. Did you purchase locally or online? I have had great luck with buying from local Indian grocers, but that hasn’t been everyone’s story. If it is too thick, it is possible that you need to add more water. In that case, the added liquid could help smooth it out a bit. I hope your next trial goes smoother :)

@ SavvyBrown, I used my products for styling! They will be available very soon!!!
