Just a Gorgeous TWA

by Fleurzty on December 29, 2008

In the post on Women with TWA, I called on my readers to share their stories and I personally sought wonderful stories from various boards, and Khamlet kindly responded. I love her hair and her frame of mind and I hope you do too.

Are you wearing a TWA by choice or are you growing your hair out?

*** I am wearing a TWA in order to grow my hair. I adore natural hair and how it can grown long, strong , and healthy! I already had short hair, so rocking a TWA wasn’t so bad. I’m still learning to do different styles with it, and while learning, I am enjoying it!

What do you find to be the best thing about wearing a TWA?

*** The thickness! I love how thick and healthy it is! I love that it loves water, and that I can do a Co-wash and easily comb through it because it is so short lol! You have to love your hair, if you don’t, it is going to be hard to rock the TWA. Love it, Live it, and Learn about it, because it is the start to the beginning of growing your long nappy-natural hair! IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

What has been others (friends, family, mate/spouse) reactions to your short look?

*** Well, again, I already had short hair before, plus I was natural before, but permed again, so it really wasn’t such a shock. Although, because it was so thick and I NEVER put heat to it, but only water, product, and then styled my hair, was shocking to them because I never did any of these styles before. My boyfriend is more than helpful. He appreciates it and is very curious about natural hair. My sister adores it! She started going natural herself now! :) My friends, only two understand my reasoning for it, and have considered going natural themselves. As for the others, who are not my ethnicity or some who are, seem confused of why I won’t “flat iron” my hair or “put it back straight”, as they say. They will never understand the mental and physical state that this process will do to you too in order to appreciate yourself in any way, short or long hair, relaxed or not, straight or curly, I will never again “PUT IT BACK STRAIGHT”!

Do you find short hair feminine?

*** Sometimes I do find myself feeling very “womanly” and grown, and on some days, I feel like a guy! lol  That is when feeling good about yourself and knowing your beautiful plays a big role. I just revert myself back to that thinking and realize that I don’t care about what anybody else says.

What is your advice to other women who are wearing their natural hair in a short cut?

*** Look towards the future! Have patience! God is not going to give you patience, but the opportunity to be patient. This is your time to enjoy and appreciate what you have! SO ENJOY IT, because it will be long, strong, and curly before you know it!

Products Review:
I like to use Donna Marie’s Co-Co Curly Butter Cream. I use this on my finger twist and I LOVE this stuff! I also use Jane Carter Solution Leave-In conditioner and Carol’s Daughter Tui Oil! The Tui Oil conditions my hair very well, although, it doesn’t give it much shine, but I can feel the softness in my hair.

I am still learning more styles and will definitely update you soon. Right now I have Senaglese Twist in my hair. Thank you for asking my to do this!

Great article. What is the Singnalese twist? How is it accomplished?

Also, for a really good product you can buy locally that is budget-wise, approx $4.00 is Organics (by African Best’s) Texture My Way Curl Keeper! I have 4B hair really kinky and this worked really good at defining the wave in one night. I like to twist my hair and twist out the next day. The Elasta Qp Butter did not give me a good twist out the next day, although it is very moisturizing. I also brought the Haiveda Whipped Cream which is a great moisturizer but for twist outs in one night it did not give me a good twist out. I do not wear my twists two to three days yet as my hair still looks short so I like to wear a twist out.

This product, Organics Texture My Way Curl Keeper is a product one should try. It is new and designed for the new natural looks that are now becoming practical. They also make a gel which I have not tried. I am glad there is an inexpensive product that can work on 4B hair leaving it defined, shiny and moist.

Love the all the pics but especially the headband pic! It looks longer in that one. I am still confused on the co-wash and what it exactly means. Can you explain? Congrats on the TWA! Thanks for the insight as well!!

Thank you ladies on behalf of Khamlet :) Co-wash means that you’re only using a conditioner to wash and clean your hair, no shampoo used for the wash. It is milder on the hair and leaves your hair with much more moisture than shampoo use.

Hello!
This is Khamlet and I am very thankful for all of your compliments. Senegalese Angellight are kind of like braids, but they are twist. I will leave a link so you can see an example: (http://www.braidsinc.com/gallery/senegalese1.JPG). Elasta QP mango butter didn’t do to well on my hair either! I have no clue why, but it smelled so good! I used Organics before but not what you have recommended. I used the twist and loc gel, it worked really good on my twist, but when untwisting them, they were dry and flaky :( . I will have to try the one you told me about once I take these twist out!
Thank you so much KCurly on your compliment!
Thank you Fleurtzy on explaining the co-wash, giving thanks for me, and showing this article! I hope everyone enjoys this.
