FAQs

Alright, it may have seemed as though I have been ignoring some of your questions, but I really have not been. I have finally had the time to compile the list of Frequently Asked Questions. Please refer to it for answers, and of course you can email me your questions, if I failed to answer them here.

1.    Do you use vitamins for your skin and/or your hair?
I do sometimes. I am making efforts to become more consistent with taking my vitamins. I know that I don’t get all the vitamins and minerals I need from food, so vitamins are essential for my overall functioning, my hair included.

2.    What is your hair type?
You probably cannot find any references to hair types on this site, because I honestly do think they do more separating than anything else. Finding products that work is a combination of many factors, such as hair texture, hair health, weather conditions, hair length, and hair density.

3.    How long is your hair?
This answer will always be changing obviously. In a month, it could be much shorter or longer. My hair is currently mid-back length. I’m 5’2” so this measurement might translate into approximately 12-14 inches from the roots.

4.    How much does your hair grow in a month?
It depends on what happens in that particular month really. My growth is significantly more when I allocate the time to do intense deep treatments, apply my hair and scalp treatments regularly, keep my hair moistened and moisturized, and wear protective styles. The key for me has been to keep my hair moisturized, pay attention to my scalp as well as my hair, seal my ends and keep manipulation low yet safe.

5.    Where is your accent from?
I am originally from Haiti, so I grew up speaking Haitian Creole and French, so the accent is still very prominent when I speak English.

6.    Do you use henna ever?
I have not used henna in a few months. I have occasionally picked up a box of henna to see if anything has changed, but henna alone always results in my texture loosening a lot. The last time I tried, I used henna/amla. I tried it with 2 parts henna and 1 part amla. My hair was very soft, but still rather loose. I have not tried this treatment with more amla in the mix. I’m sure I will in the future.

7.    What do you love about amla?
I have an entire sub-category that highlights my experiences with amla. I have used this treatment on average once a month for a year now, and the results are always consistent. This weekend I realized that my hair was in fact thicker when I used amla twice a month. Amla always results in darker hair that is strong and elastic. I also love that it intensifies my curls. If you look in my previous years’ photo journals, you’ll find that my hair had a lot of curls, and you could see every curl very well when it is wet. However, my hair always frizzed tons when it dried. Amla has definitely help keep the frizz under control without the use of gels. In turn, I am able to style strictly with butters, oils and leave-in conditioners. A definite move toward healthy practices!

8.    What is your #1 hair care tip?
This is a tough one. There are a few things that I believe are essential to growing and maintaining your best hair. If I however can only choose one thing, it will have to be: Listen to your Hair. I believe listening to your hair will make the difference you need, as it will tell you when more conditioning is needed, when you

9.    What is your hair care regimen?
This has always been a hard question for me to answer. Though I have to admit that for months now, I have been very consistent in the products that I use.
Weekly
-    I co-wassh my hair using a cheap conditioner.
-    I follow with a deep conditioner that I allow to stay in my hair for 45-60 minutes. I find that I need more time as I wash my hair less frequently and my hair gets longer.
-    I apply my leave-in conditioner (I am working on a formula. In the meantime, I use YTC leave-in conditioner).
-    I follow my leave-in with my Hydrating Hair Butter.
-    If I am twisting my hair, I stop here. I seldom using styling products for my twists nowadays. If I am wearing larger twists and would like the added definition, I use my Curls Nurture Cream.  For wash and go styles, I use my Curls Nurture Cream after sealing. It provides added definition coupled with soft hold.
-    I also do a scalp massage using the Hair and Scalp Serum weekly. It encourages circulation, has anti-microbial ingredients and promotes growth. It is a new addition to my routine. I created it close to a year ago but only used it when I saw signs of stress in certain areas in the past. I am now making it a regular part of my routine.
Bi-weekly
-    I do a treatment mask. Most of the time, I use amla. However, I have used bentonite clay and avocado masks. I plan to experiment with rhassoul clay in the future.

10.    How do you protect your hair at night?
I don’t have an elaborate nightly routine. On certain nights (not preset), I apply my Hair and Scalp Serum. I seldom take my hair down or twist/braid my hair before bed. I always wear a satin scarf at night.

Kimmaytube recommended your site as one of the best informing. So here I am to learn more. My hair has always been short due to lack of knowledge. My beginning pics. r pretty scary I think stress place a large role w/bald spots. It has been almost 1yr, 6 mos. my sides hair when hand stretched touches my collar bone and the back a little past the top spine bump (sorry don’t know that bone’s medical name). One of my major problems is dryness. Because I am afraid of breakage I keep my hair in a protective style- twist. I usually cowash my hair every 3 weeks. I think I should at least rinse everyday w/H2O since it is a great natural moisturizer. I purchased Aubrey Organics’ Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner at first usage I think I have fallen in love, I hope it’s not puppy love. The honeysuckle scent is soooo lovely. I luv luv it. When I tried Pure Shea Btr on my hair mixed w/jojoba oil some of the pure shea btr touched my scalp and stang. I am scared to use it now. Someone suggested Mango btr instead u have any idea where I can buy a tub or recv a trial.
U have a beautiful soul.
